This quick, street-food-inspired grilled naan toastie turns rich TASTY BITE®/MD Channa Masala into a warm, melty, comforting handheld meal.
INGREDIENTS
Toastie Filling & Breads:
- 2 pouches TASTY BITE®/MD Channa Masala
- 4 pieces naan bread
- 1 cup (115 g) shredded mozzarella or Monterey Jack cheese
- 1 cup (30 g) fresh baby spinach
- 1 medium ripe tomato (approx. 120 g), thinly sliced
Spreads & Cooking:
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) plain yogurt or garlic sauce
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) butter (melted) or olive oil
Garnish & Serving:
- 2 tbsp (8 g) fresh coriander (cilantro), chopped
- Fresh lime wedges, for serving
COOKING STEPS
-
1 Warm & Mash the Filling: Heat the TASTY BITE®/MD Channa Masala in a skillet over medium heat for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring occasionally. Lightly crush some of the chickpeas with the back of a spoon or spatula to create a thick, cohesive filling that stays neatly inside the sandwich.
-
2 Prep the Naan Base: Warm the naan breads in a dry skillet, toaster oven, or microwave for 10–15 seconds until soft and pliable. Lay each flat on a clean work surface and spread each evenly with plain yogurt or garlic sauce.
-
3 Layer the Fillings: On one half of each naan, layer the fresh baby spinach, thinly sliced tomatoes, shredded cheese, and a generous portion of the warm mashed channa masala. Fold the other half of the naan over to close each sandwich.
-
4 Grill to Golden & Melty: Lightly brush both outsides of each folded naan with melted butter or olive oil. Cook in a preheated panini press, sandwich press, or large heavy skillet over medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes per side until golden brown, crisp on the outside, and the cheese is fully melted.
-
5 Garnish & Serve: Cut each warm toastie in half on the diagonal, sprinkle with freshly chopped coriander, and serve immediately alongside fresh lime wedges for squeezing.
